Some 143 times Paul uses the phrase “in Christ.” Discipleship is more than following Jesus, it is living with and in him. At every Mass in the doxology we worship God as we say, “Through him (Jesus), with him and in him all Glory and Honor is yours! Because we are in Christ and he is in us, our life can be different and extraordinary.
1) All Things in Christ: Jesus must be the center of our life and not on the periphery. With Jesus we can navigate any storm and recognize the deceit and false philosophies of this secular age. Because of Jesus we are a new creation.
2) We are an Easter People: God raised Jesus from the dead! Jesus was the first fruits of many brothers and sisters. We can expect to be raised also, in him. God is able and has promised.
3) Stressed or Blessed?: Everyone faces stress in their life. Stress is when the perceived pressure is ramped up. Jesus offers us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
4) Sacrificial Love: God proves his love for us through the cross of Jesus. While we were yet sinners, God loved us and sent his son to die for us. God’s love is unconditional and sacrificial but demands reciprocation.
5) Welcome Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is God’s love poured into our hearts. We need to Welcome God’s Spirit constantly and have new awakenings to the power and person of God within.
6) Transformed not Translated: We are all being changed from Glory to Glory by the grace of God. Our personal change is a process that takes time. God’s purpose is to conform us to the image of Christ.
7) Rise!: Jesus is Risen from the dead and we will rise at the end of time. But Scripture and the Catholic Church teaches we can experience the beginning of the Risen life even now.
8) Riches out of Poverty: The first Beatitude tells us the poor in spirit are Blessed. Jesus is revealing a spiritual secret. We must come to God needy, empty and humble. God hears the cry of the poor.
