Ordinary Time

Ordinary Time continued on June 1st and will last until Sat. Nov. 28th when Advent begins.

Time is a great mystery. We are in an eternal “now” presently, yet it keeps slipping into the future and the past.

Lao Tzu said, “If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.”

Time is simultaneous. Everything is happening in the whole wide world at the same time. At this very second, someone in the world is hitting a golf ball, making love, eating, going to the bathroom, running and working out, you name it. There are people dying and being born constantly. If we could only see the wider picture. We are part of this huge massive world with infinite workings and possibilities. The stories that could be told.

Time is sequential. We go from one episode to another with transitions in between. Have you ever noticed that? One minute you are in the bathroom cleaning. Transition. You are in your bedroom reading. Transition. You are in the kitchen eating. Transition. You are in the car driving…and so on. We go from one thing to the next to the next. All has meaning and purpose if you are focused and goal oriented.

Time is also ordered. This is what "Ordinary" Time means. It isn’t common, bland time, but sequential and logical. We number the weeks of ordinary time from 1 to 34. Of course there are other seasons such as Advent or Lent, but Ordinary time represents the largest amount of time in the year. The color is green to represent life and prosperity.  We focus on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The emphasis is on following Jesus as disciples.

I invite you to treasure the gift of your time, because, after all, it is fleeting. Give thanks and make the most of the days, weeks, and years God gives you. I invite you also to manage your time well. God wants productivity and fruitfulness from us. Be creative and give yourself to your tasks. Have goals and pursue them. Most of all, love God by giving God your quality time in service, reading and prayer.

I invite you to watch this episode of Live with Passion! about the meaning of time. Enjoy and may God bless you with fruitful days of peace. Amen.
